Hey, I’m Aloma 👋
Developer-turned-solopreneur. Antique business apprentice. Still figuring things out.
Who Am I?
I’m Hsucheng Huang, but I go by Aloma because, let’s be honest, it’s easier for most people to say. I’m creeping up on 40, and while my life isn’t bad—good job, great partner, decent health—I’m at a weird crossroads.
I’ve spent over a decade in tech, writing code and solving problems. But now? I want to build something of my own. Something that actually helps people in a tangible way.
And right now, that “something” is growing an antique business in France with my partner.
What Am I Doing? (A.K.A. What’s This Blog About?)
I’m documenting my attempt to transition from full-time programmer to solopreneur. That means:
- Learning the ropes of the antique trade (while trying not to break anything expensive).
- Figuring out how to turn independent projects into sustainable income.
- Writing about all the messy thoughts, lessons, and failures along the way.
If you’re into raw, real talk about work, life, and the existential crisis of reinventing yourself in your late 30s, stick around.
Why Antiques?
Good question. My partner is the expert—I’m just the IT and marketing guy for now. But there’s something fascinating about old things. Every piece has a story, a past life, a bit of mystery. And honestly? The thrill of the hunt, finding hidden gems, and giving them a second home—it’s kind of addicting.
Plus, there’s a very real, hands-on satisfaction to it. A welcome change from staring at a screen all day.
The Bigger Goal
Beyond just antiques, I want to build something that lasts. A tool, a product, a business—something that truly helps people, something I can be proud of.
I don’t have all the answers yet. But I’m figuring it out, one step at a time.
Keeping It Real
I try to be positive, but I won’t fake it. In real life, people think I’m easygoing and cheerful (probably because I smile a lot). But deep down, I’m just like anyone else—navigating uncertainty, trying to make things work, hoping I’m on the right path.
So if you’re someone who’s also trying to reinvent yourself, start something new, or just enjoys watching someone else stumble through it—welcome. Let’s figure it out together.
